Trensettahs Sound System is an intriguing collective whose music is essentially reggae-based. Still, their latest single “La Fiebre” includes much more than just reggae – with Afro-centered rhythms and instruments it includes catchy hip-hop beats and whatnot else. “La Fiebre” features celebrated reggae vocalist Sizzla Kalonji and musical visionaries Zalama Crew, who play Latin Afrobeat.
The effect is exceptionally infectious, and the listener can feel the artist’s sensibilities, even if they don’t understand the lyrics.
Yet there is much more behind the single itself. Trensettahs Sound System is a collective of Afro-futurists working to create and promote reggae music to fans all around the world. Founded in 2015, Trensettahs is a band of musicians, DJs, visual artists, thinkers, business people, and tech pioneers.
While most artists simply plan singles or albums, Trensettahs Sound System has planned an annual festival in Ethiopia, a collaborative album featuring artists from Jamaica, Ethiopia, Columbia, and the U.S.A., and a 5-part docuseries that follows the collective to Columbia, Jamaica, and the U.S.A. Thematically, Trensettahs Sound System resonates with social resistance and the reclamation of personal power.
