Erik & The Worldly Savages, the creation of one Erik Mut, and his fascination with Balkan music are back with their latest six-song EP, Future Thunder Void.
And while Break Free, their previous EP from 2022 showed not only promise, but a rough-edged charm, Future Thunder Void is definitely a more polished and refined affair.
The music is definitely taken up a notch in its quality, at moments recalling Zach Condon’s Beirut. Mut’s lyrical preoccupations and emotional involvement seem to have remained at the same level of intensity.
As he explains, “Written in Thailand and Mexico, Future Thunder Void takes place after the events of the previous Break Free EP. It describes the different sensations and feelings of nomadic life in the modern world. It shows you how confusing, empowering, and hopeful it can be. The single ‘Thunder In Our Hearts’ covers what it means to recognize your own individuality and how it feels to broadcast that to the world; it speaks to those who believe in embracing the beat of their own drum without sacrificing success. It celebrates finding new, authentic ways of being fully in one’s own ultimate lifestyle.”
And that is easily sensed throughout these six songs that show definite progression in Erik & The Worldly Savages music.
