How did you all get into music? Who/what were some of your biggest influences growing up?

Our guitarist Addison listened to a lot of Beatles & Eric Clapton when we were younger, and we’ve always loved Pinegrove. The Kooks were probably my first favorite band.

How did you all come together as a band?

Me and Addison met and started playing music when we were 14 or so, growing up on Oahu. Willie went to school on Oahu and Caiden made our first music video.

Any significance to the band name? How’d it get chosen?

In short, moss saved my life.

What’s the music scene like in Hawaii?

From our experience not great, there’s for sure bands and musicians, but not a lot of people going to small shows or any sort of scene we were able to tap into. We played a couple really fun events on the north shore but mainly at restaurants and things like that.

How’d it shape and influence you guys musically?

I’m really influenced by the things around me and I think spending my childhood/ teenage years by the ocean I always kind of sought out a certain depth and intensity in everything I do, including writing songs and performing. Me and Addison pretty much spent all our teenage years surfing and playing music, so it just feels natural our music has moved more towards a beach feel.

How would you describe your sound?

Alternative Surf Rock

What’s your process when it comes to crafting a song?

I’ve always thought processes are silly when it comes to being creative because I think it defeats the purpose of being creative. I just try to keep myself growing spiritually creatively and keep myself in an environment where my mind is open and I’m trying new things.

Congrats on the release of your EP! How has the response been so far to the project?

Thanks! The response has really been great and we feel so lucky people are resonating with the new songs.

What do you want listeners to take from the project? Any specific themes?

I think a consistent theme in my lyrics is just to find the beauty in sadness as much as in the good.

Do you all have a favorite song off it? Any song you love playing live the most?

My favorite song is “Blink,” but sometimes it’s scary having such a vulnerable song out in the wild.

There’s a warm, nostalgic feel to all of the songs; what draws you all to that kind of nostalgic feel?

Nostalgia is such a triumph emotion, in how it’s like déjà vu. It’s like your subconscious is reminding you of the fragility and beauty in your life, and I just love that.

You guys have really seemed to be gaining a lot of traction and fan following, that’s gotta feel great. What would you contribute that to?

Well, we’ve been working really hard at this for the past 4-5 years so we’re really grateful to have some of it be paying off. We were lucky enough last year to sign to 7s Management and S-Curve/Hollywood records, and that has also helped immensely in the effectiveness of our releases.

You have some festivals lined up for this year? Have you all gotten to play any before this? Anything specific about playing a festival that excites you guys?

We love the challenge of winning over new people with a performance, and I think that’s our favorite part, other than being able to see other amazing artists and basically attend an amazing event for free!

What can people expect from you in the future? Shows? Tour?

We’re on tour right now and plan on getting to some new places later this year. We’ve also got a lot of new songs we’re working on that we’re really excited to get recorded.
