Having your native roots in Africa, moving to live in Europe, and being inspired, by as many musical genres you can breathe in, can come up with some excellent musical combinations, particularly if you are guided by an instinctive inspiration instead of thinking things out beforehand. Amo Jr. and his latest single simply titled “Emotions” certainly prove the point.
The artist in question is one Fidelis Amo-Antwi, aka Pap C, aka Bursty Burst and currently resurrected as Amo Jr., is a songwriter, guitar player, performer, living in Hamburg, Germany. Fidelis grew up in Ghana but moved with his family to Germany back in the late ’80s.
Amo started out in music back in 2004 under various artistic guises, taking a break to pursue an academic career, only to return back to music a few years back, with an EP and a few singles.
“Emotions” is his latest effort, and it is a showcase of how you can effectively combine African folk music with modern pop and even classical music influences. It is coupled with Amo’s very delicate, emotional vocal delivery, fitting the singles title.
What makes it even more effective is the fact that Amo came up with the song instinctively, on the spot in the studio. He explains:
“The song was written almost instantaneously in the studio. Actually, I wanted to release a completely different song, a dance track first. But the video creator I urgently wanted to work with didn’t feel that song. So I sent him a couple of other songs, and he picked “Emotions”.
Maybe Amo should apply the same principle to his forthcoming album.
