Folk rock isn’t the easiest musical combo to pull off, but Chicago-based Trick Shooter Social Club do it in style with their latest single, “Don’t Settle Me Down.”
This band falls somewhere between the dreamy folk meanderings of Mazzy Star and the mellow punk blues of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. “Don’t Settle Me Down,” is somewhat of a harmony between peace and wildness, perhaps being in peace with your spirit’s wild and unbridled side, its primal refusal to settle down. The gentle, yet firm and resolute vocals convey the full emotional spectrum.
The pipes and slide guitar gel beautifully and elevate “Don’t Settle Me Down” to a new emotional height, lending it not one, but two dimensions of epicness – the folk and the rock kind. It’s a song that fans of both styles could find something in.
