Ok, so it is becoming harder and harder to break into the top tier of pop these days, and that is any kind of pop. At the same time, this becomes even harder when you are aware that the melodic pop, the one that has modernized, but somewhat ’70s or ’80s feel is not at the top of the audience’s attention list. You know, the kind that The New Pornographers were/are so good at.
So what do you do? Well, you can resort to any kind of, you may call it a trick to get the attention. Like turning your double single into a joint video, something TOIGO does here with his new songs: “We’ve Got Tonight to Leave Me Broken” and “Another Shade Of Blue.”
Of course, such a stunt is not going to be worth much if your music is not up to scratch, no matter how good the stunt is.
Luckily for TOIGO, he’s coming up with two great melody-oriented pop tracks, something The New Pornographers might come up with at their more inspired time.
It might be up to the fact that like The New Pornographers, TOIGO also calls Vancouver his base, but it is probably more to the fact that as an artist he has not only the capabilities but also to right touch to turn both melody and lyrics into excellent pop songs.
Both, “We’ve Got Tonight to Leave Me Broken” and “Another Shade Of Blue” are ample proof of that.
