Are NFTs taking over the art world, music certainly included? While that debate has just started, an NYC electronic duo Sup? has decided to go the NFT way. Guy Zalaxy and Bucky Skullet, who make up Sup?, have decided to release all their music exclusively as NFTs.
They will start out the process with their debut single “I Quit.” The release will take place virtually, in the “Metaverse.” “We’ve opted to deliver our genesis record in the NFT format, which feels appropriate considering cryptocurrency and decentralization has offered financial freedom to so many and has actually enabled many people to Quit their jobs or previous lifestyles. If you are holding a crypto bag, this one is for you,” says the duo.
For the music part, “I Quit” is a chirpy piece of electronic soul/hip-hop that keeps its tongue deeply in cheek. But the guys weren’t skimpy, as the production qualities are quite a high level here.
To complete the NFT release process, Sup? will give all of the “I Quit” NFT owners access/tickets/passes to all of their live (and virtual) shows and events, in perpetuity, as well as a Founders Collection print of all future records.
They will offer only 100 copies of the single for sale through https://opensea.io/collection/sup-i-quit.
Whether their concept will work remains to be seen, but the song is worth the spin anyway.
