For the music they have created so far, Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench, have been called ‘the British Run the Jewels,’ and have garnered support from quite a few British artists and elsewhere.
They are back again with ‘Never Give Up,’ yet another slab of ragga/hip-hop, this time joined by Danny Sprang and iStand on vocals, with the remixing job done by Australia’s Lil’ Rosco.
Rebel ACA says about the track: “This was originally written in the Butterhut NW10 (London) over one afternoon and gave it to Lil’ Rossco to remix. Well, he made an even better song. Except for iStand now sounds like a Dalek. Never one to quibble over whose oranges are juiciest when the pips are down, we are proudly releasing his version instead.”
“Life isn’t easy and has a habit to feel like a queue of people that have lined up to punch you in the face. So don’t give up. Ever.”
Who knows how the ‘original’ version sounds like, maybe we’ll find out at some point. In effect though, it doesn’t matter, because this version sounds excellent, thank you. Leaving just the beats and some understated keyboards, the vocals come to the forefront catching up with you even on the dance floor. As they should. Quite invigorating in every respect.
