Sometimes a single is more than just one song, good or bad. Sometimes it transcends its brief running time, either by coming up with something excitingly original, or, by recreating a style, a mood, a situation, almost to perfection. In these sour, chaotic times, either one of those can do us really good.
J.L.G, or Jordan Luigi Guadalupe with his latest single “Lion Lady’ has come up with one of those that certainly falls in the latter category. So, what’s the deal?
It is all in the atmosphere and the mood. J.L.G resides in Miami, so it is no wonder that he picks up on that balmy, ’80s R&B, jazzy vibes where everything has to be pitch-perfect – every note, vocal line, has to fall into an exact place during the few brief minutes a track lasts. Even the added echo effect has to recreate that moment when the sun starts to set, the heat starts to ease off and the streets fill with all those night people.
Of course, these days, the streets of Miami, or elsewhere are more or less empty. But the mood and hope for the better have to be there. And J.L.G’s “Lion Lady” does its best to do so. Both make it through with full marks. This is the moment when we need this mood and vibe.
