Laura Nyro, the late ’60s and ’70s singer-songwriter has been an inspiration to many other artists and still has a wide following, even after her premature death in 1997.
As Pitchfork rightly points out, Nyro was an inspiration to many other prominent artists of the era, including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Neil Young, Carole King, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, and others.
To celebrate her work, Madfish and Snapper Music will release Laura Nyro: American Dreamer, an 8 LP limited-edition deluxe box set on July 30, 2021. It will feature seven of Nyro’s studio albums (recorded from 1967-1978) and an album of rarities and live cuts.
The box set will also include a 36-page book featuring rare photographs, liner notes, and interviews with Todd Rundgren, Charlie Callelo, Herb Bernstein, and more. The seven studio LPs included in the set are: More Than a New Discovery (1967), Eli and the Thirteenth Confession (1968), New York Tendaberry (1969), Christmas and the Beads of Sweat (1970), Gonna Take a Miracle (1971), Smile (1976), and Nested (1978).
Nyro’s songs were covered by numerous artists including the likes of Barbra Streisand, Three Dog Night, the 5th Dimension, and more.
