Australian Nick de la Hoyde has been making a name for himself in electronic music circles, either as a solo artist, as part of electronic trio D.E.L., or through his collaborations or songwriting for quite a few artists around the world. This time around it is de la Hoyde in solo guise again, in the form of the single “Stay By Me.”
Maybe he wanted to lean on that absolute soul ballad classic “Stand By Me,” but that might be hard to judge from the pop/electronics tune he presents here.
It is quite an uptempo number that still has a melancholic undercurrent running. This is quite a faithful musical interpretation of what de la Hoyde said himself about the track:
“Sometimes it takes something unfortunate to happen for you to wake up and realize the love around you. I was guilty of taking things in life for granted and at my lowest moment, it was so clear to me what mattered in life and what didn’t. ‘Stay By Me’ is an uplifting track with a heap of energy that helped me lift out of that space. I wanted the guitars, drums, and dreamy synths to elevate with my vocal and take the listener on a ride.”
Whatever the case is, it is no wonder de la Hoyde is considered a hot songwriting property in electronic pop circles, as “Stay By Me” has all the qualities of a potential streaming hit that will find its way on many electro-pop playlists.
