The Matrix 4 has finally begun shooting in San Francisco, and starved cult fans finally got a taste of the Matrix and the Chosen One, but it may not be exactly what they have expected.
Instead of the classic, sleek look, marked by the signature black trench coat and glasses, Neo looked a lot more like real-life Keanu Reeves, sporting a beanie hat, beard and long hair, and casual jeans and blazer. It’s unclear what that means, as very little regarding the movie has been revealed so far.
From what we do know, Lana Wachowski, whose red and purple dreadlocks were also spotted at the shoot, is back behind the writing, directing, and producing wheel.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” she had previously stated. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
And some of those brilliant friends she’s referring to include Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith who starred in the second and third film of the franchise. Unfortunately, Hugo Weaving won’t be reprising his role of Agent Smith due to scheduling issues. There will also be prominent actors who will enter the Matrix for the first time like, Neil Patrick Harris and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to play younger Morpheus as part of a time travel element.
The Matrix 4 is set to be come out on May 21, 2021.
