Ben & Jerry’s has come up with novelty flavors for everything from The Grateful Dead to Phish to Stephen Colbert to Barack Obama. Now, get ready for a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor, based on Netflix.
Netflix has announced the arrival of “Punch Line,” which is a tie-in with Netflix’s “Netflix is a Joke” comedy vertical.
The flavor also comes with a “hotline,” where fans can call 1-866-PUNCHLINE, and hear jokes. The video promoting the flavor (and hotline) features comics Wanda Sykes, Fortune Feimster, and Aparna Nancherla. The comedy flavor is described as a “limited batch.”
“Good for the belly and good for a belly laugh, the new flavor is a comedic duo of brown butter bourbon and almond ice creams with roasted almonds and chuckles of cherries. That’s a mouthful of mirth,” Netflix said in a press release.
The flavor consists of “Brown Butter Bourbon & Almond Ice Creams with Roasted Almonds & Chuckles of Cherries.” It’s the fourth Netflix Ben & Jerry’s flavor, following Netflix & Chilll’d, from earlier in the year, along with Boots on the Moooo’n, which was launched in conjunction with Netflix’s Space Force show, and Chip Happens, a tie-in with Nailed It!
Netflix has been streaming stand-up comedy specials since 2012, and at one point was producing a new special per week. It’s emerged as probably the go-to spot for comedians looking to make specials, and for comedy fiends looking to watch them.
Ben & Jerry’s was founded in the late ’70s by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, and the company was sold in 2000 to Unilever.
In other big news for the Netflix is a Joke brand, YouTube announced this week that its Top Trending video of the year was 8:46, the special produced in the summer, by Dave Chappelle, following the killing of George Floyd. The 27-minute special was featured on the Netflix is a Joke YouTube channel (rather than Netflix itself), where it has been viewed more than 29 million times.
