Trailer Roundup 2/4-2/17

If Disney didn’t expect the fan backlash from revealing a non-blue Will Smith as the genie in Aladdin, then surely they REALLY didn’t expect the even louder backlash they’d get from the blue reveal. It’s only a short teaser, so we’ll withhold our judgement, but from this first look, things look a bit… off. I love a good anthology, as it allows creators to really get experimental and poignant with their stories and this latest one from Tim Miller and David Fincher called Love Death + Robots, looks disturbingly weird in all the best ways possible. The cyberpunk/anime aesthetics really give me Animatrix vibe and that’s a very good thing. If you’re unfamiliar with the Theranos story, you will be soon, as it will likely go down as one the most spectacular falls from grace in memory and will serve as the new cautionary tale for all of the things wrong in Silicon Valley. The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley is one of the first real in-depth documentaries about this story and much like watching a train wreck, we just can’t turn away. One documentary that’ll be worth checking out.

Blumhouse has been on a roll as of late, particularly in the thriller/horror genre, and it’s latest, Ma, certainly came out of nowhere. Who would’ve ever thought we’d see Octavia Spencer in a horror film, and as its main antagonist? But she looks great in it and it gives off some heavy Get Out-esque vibes, so they could have another sleeper on their hands. I’ve wanted a follow-up to Samuel L. Jackson’s Shaft quasi-remake for a while now, but I’m not entirely sold on this 3-generational follow-up that seems to be getting the 21 Jump Street treatment in that it’s more comedy than serious action; but then again, it is starring Samuel L. So who are we kidding, I’m still here for it.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones were your favorites.
