Video Roundup 2/3-2/9

“Mile High” has definitely been one of the most notable songs off Jame Blakes’ recently released album, Assume Form, and one that people have been gravitating to. And for good reason; as it’s a perfect pairing between him and Travis Scott and easily one of the best Metro Boomin songs we’ve heard in a minute. The video, while a fairly stripped back affair, does a great job of capturing the song’s trippy, and almost hypnotic, vibes. Ariana Grande has been on full go mode since last year and she’s back with another one. It continues her more aggressive approach to music and has zero subtlety, but we’re sure we’ll be hearing this one all over the airwaves. The video tries to tell a light narrative but it’s all standard fare. Aside from James Blake, Toro y Moi, delivered my favorite project from last month and the bouncy, infectious “Ordinary Pleasure” has been in constant rotation. I get heavy N.E.R.D vibes from it (in the best ways possible), and the playful visuals are a great companion to the feel good number.

Travis Scott has been steadily working his way through Astroworld with videos for each of its songs, and “CAN’T SAY” is the latest to get its own treatment. It keeps with the same visual style as the rest of his videos thus far but it’s probably his most basic one yet. Might be time to switch the aesthetics up a bit. Yup, it’s 2019 and A$AP Rocky is still pushing the heavily overlooked Testing album with another new video – this time for “Kids Turned Out Fine.” But I’m cool with it since his visuals are always top notch and the videos have actually breathed new life into many of those songs. He employs the freeze frame effect once again, but this time paired with some great transitions that make it look like your watching a slideshow of an adolescent’s journey through life. It’s a dope production that really captures that teen spirit.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones were your favorites.
