Video Roundup 12/30-1/5

Wow, a Backstreet Boys sighting is not something you expect heading into 2019 but somehow, someway they are still at it, and despite the irony of a group of grown men pushing their 40s being called ‘boys’ their new music has seemingly aged along with them. “No Place” is a folksy, psuedo-country ballad that plays up their family image with the home video style music video hammering that point home. I’ve never been a fan, but they must have an audience still out there somewhere. There’s probably still a lot of people out there that still haven’t managed to make it through Chris Brown’s absurdly long last album but he’s back again with new music to start the year. He makes good music, that’s just a fact of life at this point and “Undecided” is yet another ‘good’ offering while the video, while cinematic, is more of what he does best – dancing. Despite putting out 3 projects last year, 2018 felt like a slow year for Future and he must’ve felt the same because at the top of the year he’s already offering up new music. The song, “Crushed Up”, and accompanying video is typical Future fare but it is one of his more enjoyable singles in some time.

With a song name like “Hot Wings” where else could you have a music video shot other than your local wings location, so that’s exactly what 2 Chainz did. It’s your average trap song but you have to think that B Dubs or Wingstop missed out on a great opportunity for some clout. I think it’s safe to say that 2018 was the biggest year of Nipsey Hussle’s musical career that got capped off by a surprising, but well deserved, Grammy nomination. So what better way to celebrate the year than with the celebratory “Victory Lap” and a trip to Tulum.
