The Triumphant, Surprisingly Sexual Return of the Jonas Brothers

Something I thought I’d never say again:

“Have you seen the new Jo Bros video?”

The Jonas Brothers are back, and there’s no denying that they’ve had sex.

After disbanding in the early 2010’s, it seemed as though Jonas Brothers Fever had dissipated indefinitely. I think I speak for all of my fellow females (and guys!) when I say that we’re all burnin’ up once again – Sorry, I had to. Everyone else is saying it!

Ingenious Re-entry

The video for their new single, “Sucker”, dropped on March 1st. First and foremost, this song is a banger. It’s really fucking catchy and I foresee it being stuck in my head for weeks on end.

But I’m totally cool with that.

The Jonas Brothers were always known for their wholesome, poppy portrayal (thanks to Disney), but I’m happy to report that the only semblance of that now is genre. (See: Sophie Turner licking her lips and admiring her handiwork as Joe Jonas dangles from the ceiling hog-tied).

Two of the three Jonas-es are married, with middle brother Joe tying the knot with GOT alum Sophie Turner this summer. Joe and Nick have held their own in the music industry since the band’s breakup, but their profiles have certainly been further elevated by their star-studded relationships.

Which is exactly why incorporating their respective significant others into the “Sucker” video was totally ingenious. (No joke, mad props to their PR team because this is sure to be one hell of a comeback).

Sophisticated Style

The video hits you right in the Kirsten Dunst Marie Antoinette feels with its appeal to high fashion (hello, classic Hollywood meets haute couture?) and luxurious aesthetics. However, it’s clear from the get go that said appeal doesn’t take itself too seriously, which plays in to the inherently goofy nature of the group that lives on even in this new incarnation.

The high fashion clothes and the historically regal setting meld interestingly with an ’80s inspired sound and look, complete with static-y transitions and a tottering tower of TVs.

…And Sex Appeal

While the visuals invoke a sense of pseudo sophistication, and the song is a total bop, the star of the three minute long show is for sure the sexual tension. Who needs video girls when you can just make out with your wife in front of the camera?

Purity rings, who?

In this case, real life romance plus fiction is a recipe that portrays genuinely on screen and makes for some steamy moments at the same time.

Bet you never thought you’d see the day when you’re sexually aroused by a Jonas Brothers music video. You know, unless you were really into them back in your middle/high school days.

A Much Needed Reprieve

Though the Jonas Brothers have proven themselves more mature this time around, their comeback is still incredibly welcome in an industry dominated by (mostly) mediocre pop and (mostly) tasteless handling of intimate relations.

Who would have thought that we needed, of all people, the Jonas Brothers to set us straight about how we should be portraying our women in music?

The nostalgia is strong these days, and I’m patiently awaiting many more opportunities to pretend like it’s 2008.
