Olivia Henry’s “In My Touch” is the kind of song that gets you pumped up to stay true to yourself and your principles at a time when you’re most inclined to veer far away from them – when you’re in love. In that sense, the song is somewhat reminiscent of Duffy’s “Stepping Stone.”
Recovering from years of suffering a debilitating autoimmune disease, Olivia Henry’s singing brims with the unadulterated desire to just be. That sense of confidence and inner power is anything but forced or exploited – on the contrary, it feels very natural and inimitable, like a spontaneous force of nature, likely fueled precisely by that real-life adversity, and as such is highly contagious; to the point you could even use “In My Touch” as a pre-workout song, even though that probably wasn’t its purpose.
The vocals’ overall feel is a bit of a mix of Sia and Duffy, powerful and with a healthy dose of panache, but still poised and elegant.
“In My Touch” is quite soulful, even sassy, but also permeated by a subtlety and class that gives the now banal term ’empowering’ a new meaning.
