Warner Music joins the campaign to plant 100,000 trees in the Amazon

The music industry giant gets climate-conscious too

As announced by Variety and Digital Music News (DMN), Warner Music Group (WMG) is joining the One Tree Planted organization “to plant trees in the fire-ravaged Amazon forest.” WMG plans to plant a tree for each of its 48,210 employees. “The company will also donate a tree for every post on Twitter or Instagram that uses the hashtag #WMTree.” The company also established a special website for this purpose.

To announce the action, WMG CEO Steve Cooper, Max Lousada, Carianne Marshall, and Guy Moot issued an official statement that says: “Our goal is to plant 100,000 trees in the Amazon in 2020,” the staff note read. “This time of year, we reflect on the things that are most important to us – our family, our friends, and our communities. It’s also a good time to remind ourselves that, as a global company, we must do more to help protect our environment and our planet.”

As DMN notes, the action of planting trees was sparked by YouTubers MrBeast and Mark Rober, who kicked off the tree-planting challenge. On October 25 MrBeast announced his plan to plant over 20,000,000 trees by the end of 2019. “That effort attracted attention from all over the internet, with Elon Musk donating 1,000,000 trees to the effort. The #TeamTrees hashtag used to track the project sits at just over 18 million trees at the time of writing.”

Taking a look at the WMG-designated site, it seems that the company’s action is attracting the same kind of commitments, as it is about to max out.
