Amazon Music is releasing a mini-documentary about Notorious B.I.G.’s debut album

The documentary is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of 'Ready To Die'

Amazon Music, which already has experience (and success) with their previous venture into the genre with their Beastie Boys mini-documentary, are set to release another one that will, as Digital Music News (DMN) notes, be about “the period of the rapper’s life at the very beginning of his career as he shot to stardom.”

The main participants in the documentary are Cheo Hodari Coker, Notorious B.I.G.’s biographer, and the original producers of the rappers’ debut album, DJ Mister Cee and Easy Mo Bee. Still, special interest to the fans will probably be the rare audio interviews with late B.I.G., without repeating material and interviews from other documentaries already made about the rapper.

DMN also adds that “the film particularly chronicles how Notorious B.I.G. became a star after Puff Daddy discovered him and after Bad Boy signed him to a record deal for the album that he will always be remembered for.”

To make things more interesting for their Prime subscribers, Amazon will also make available, only to them, an audio documentary that contains longer interviews than the ones that are presented in the film.

In a separate 25th anniversary celebration, Rhino Records and GetOnDown.com are releasing a limited-edition boxed set of Ready To Die. Along with the original album, two additional tracks will be available “Just Playing (Dreams)” and “Who Shot Ya.” The set will be available on nine 7’ colored vinyl records.
