Video Roundup 7/15-7/21

Bebe Rexha has finally had her time in the spotlight and she’s been making the most of it. “I’m A Mess” is a certified hit and the video, while loaded with product placement, is a cool celebration of the song’s messaging and the all white color pallet is a nice aesthetic. MUSE is back with another single and the video keeps up their retro futuristic aesthetics with a heavy dose of CGI. The song, however, is a pretty big departure from the sound most people have come to associate them with. It’s not bad, but it will take some adjusting. 6LACK has been on a fast moving trajectory since his breakthrough Free 6LACK project, and now he’s gearing up for his major debut with new single, “Switch.” It’s definitely lighter, and more pop leaning than what was on that last project but it’s still very much a vibe. He’s got a clear knack for melodies and songwriting and the video for it takes aim at our voyeuristic culture.

Brockhampton have been buzzing and they’re gearing up for the long-anticipated major debut with “1998 TRUMAN.” It keeps their high-energy, wildly diverse style and the video keeps that all over the place energy going with each artist getting their own backdrop to deliver. I wasn’t expecting to like “Gin & Drugs” as much as I have off Wiz Khalifa’s latest album, but I can’t deny that it’s a slapper. Thanks in large part to that iconic sample but it’s a dope flip nonetheless. The video as you might expect is as trippy as can be and really digs into those ’90s west coast hip-hop aesthetics.
