Video Roundup 2/25-3/3

In this week’s video roundup we get a double offering from Chris Brown with the first offering seeing him team up with the buzzing Joyner Lucas. Eschewing singing for rapping (which he’s actually decent at) he goes rapid fire verse for rapid verse against Lucas and holds his own. The video seems a little lower budget than what we normally get from him but it’s got it’s funny moments. Secondly, he returns with another video off his too damn long last album and it’s the budget you’d expect from him. Not really sure what’s going on here – he’s part of a traveling circus troupe(?), there’s hover boards and hover cars, and there’s a weird mix of ’40s/’50s, current time, and not too distant future aesthetics. It’s weird as hell but you do get the expected fire dance choreography. Keeping it weird but almost fitting, Ric Flair (yes that one) joins 21 Savage, Offset, and Metro Boomin for a stunt-a-thon. When you think about it, it’s really odd that he hasn’t been in more rap videos than he has because he is the embodiment of a lot of these guys’ personas nowadays.

Going a little more underground, G.O.O.D music’s latest signee out of the Chi has released his first video featuring label president Pusha T. I’m not completely sold on what I’m hearing yet but if there’s anyone I trust when it comes to identifying talent it’s Ye. PRhyme (Royce da 5’9″ and DJ Premier) are back (yesssss) with their knocking single “Rock It.” The video is like their music, no frills, no games, just dope hip-hop. And J. Cole’s west coast signee, Cozz, drops off another visual from his Effected debut. It’s not overly extravagant but there’s some nice visual effects and use of lighting here.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones were your favorites.
