Video Roundup 1/21/18

Video Roundup 1/21-1/27

Jhené Aiko returns with a video for one of my favorite songs off her last project. It’s a fairly straightforward music video despite the title of the song, and much like her album, I was hoping for something a bit ‘trippier.’ As promised, Justin Timberlake is now onto his third single and video from his forthcoming album and it’s his best one yet. I really dig the production and the team up with Chris Stapleton came out unexpectedly dope. The video is a hefty 6-minutes but it’s not overblown with effects and cuts like his previous offerings and it sounds like a live recording. I’m all for the simplicity of it all.

Lady Gaga keeps things simple as well for her “Joanne” ballad off her similarly titled last album. Great lighting and close up shots and pans – simple, yet effective. Keeping the trend going, James Blake gives us time lapsed POV footage of a car driving through the night. Sounds incredibly simple, yet the way they utilize and chop up the streams of lights zooming by, reflections on the car’s hood, and little touches of glitches makes for a video that perfectly embodies the song it’s representing. Lastly, Fabolous and Jadakiss give us the first video off their joint tape and it’s got clear nods to the horror icons that inspired their project.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones were your favorites.
