After giving us a teaser a couple of weeks ago, Fox has given us the first really good look at The Predator reboot(?), and while we’re still remaining cautiously optimistic we couldn’t help but have those hopes deflated a bit by what was essentially a super Predator. Bigger is rarely ever better in movies, but who are we kidding, we’re going to see it regardless. Well that was…interesting. Even though, it wasn’t much more than a montage of random clips, the teaser for Assassination Nation was visceral and eye-catching to say the least. Looks like a satire or play off The Purge, and they look to be taking a literal ax and every other weapon imaginable to our society and culture today. This is one we’ll be keeping an eye on. After massive roles in 2 of the biggest superhero movies of the year, Josh Brolin has taken things much smaller with the The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter. Looks like it could be a heartwarming comedy and probably a much needed change of pace.
Outside of maybe Morgan Freeman, no one feels like everyone’s grandfather more than Michael Caine. He’s just one on the most enjoyable actors to watch on screen no matter what role’s he’s playing. Including this one in King Of Thieves, where we plays an old, affable leader of a group of thieves. It’s like Ocean’s, but much, much older. Has anyone in the history of cinema played batsh*t crazy better than Nic Cage? Maybe, but we highly doubt it. He’s at his best when everything’s f*cking crazy and completely over-the-top, even when the role doesn’t call for it. And Mandy looks like it may be his craziest one yet (and that’s saying a lot). Looks wildly demented and unnerving, and the visuals – hauntingly beautiful. Sign us up!
