Trailer Roundup 5/28-6/10

There’s been an almost absurd amount of new trailers dropping these past couple of weeks full of gigantic epics and smaller, more intimate fare, all headlined by Peter Jackson’s big return with the epic looking Mortal Engines. We’re not sold on what we’ve seen of the story and setting, as it appears a bit cheesy, but we know if nothing else it’ll be visually spectacular. Speaking of returns, Michael Myers is back, along with Jamie Lee Curtis, and you can forget everything you thought you knew about Halloween after the first entry; this is a hard reboot and the supposed true follow-up to the iconic first film. It’s got a lot of ground to make up for but from what we’ve seen, we’re cautiously optimistic about Myers’ return. On the smaller end of the spectrum Bradley Cooper takes up double acting and directing duties for the folksy, musical tale of A Star Is Born. Lady Gaga stars opposite of him, sans gaudy costumes, and they look like they might just turn in some of the best performances of their lives.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web continues the Dragon tattoo series and it’s been one of our most anticipated sequels for some time now. The tone, the setting, and the performance by Rooney Mara were so phenomenal in the first that this one is going to have a real hard time of matching. We just hope this seemingly new focus on more action doesn’t come at the expense of the brilliant suspense it became known for. Viola Davis is a beast of an actor, I think we can all agree on that, and she once again looks brilliant in this new action-oriented role, leading a dope female ensemble. We don’t see her get her hands dirty too often so this should be worth the watch, and did we mention that Widows is directed by Steve McQueen!? Must see in our books.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones you’re most pumped for.
