The Internet are finally back! I’ve been patiently waiting for their return since Ego Death, almost 3 years ago now. Their brand of funky, soft-soul was a vibe to say the least and it’s back in full force on Hive Mind. This is probably the most refined they’ve ever been on a record; their instrumentation is sharp as ever (those basslines are something else) and there’s not a wasted note. But that doesn’t mean they’ve lost their free flowing appeal, as there are still surprising moments of spontaneity as a song can suddenly break down into a full blown groove session. And Syd is still Syd and her silky smooth vocals weave in and out of the lush soundscapes to perfection. The Internet are a truly special group that’s able to balance their warm nostalgia while still remaining refreshingly modern. Hive Mind is a phenomenal project full of hypnotic grooves and hip-swaying rhythms.

Gorillaz - The Now Now Reaction | Reactions | LIVING LIFE FEARLESS
There are some folksy moments on the album but for the most part it all has a heavy funk flavor to it and paired with their smooth synths and soft melodies, it makes for some The Gorillaz's most unassuming and non-threatening music yet.

Chromeo - Head Over Heels Reaction | Reactions | LIVING LIFE FEARLESS
Everything Chromeo has to offer here is so shallow and devoid of any real soul that not even their varied array of guest features could do much to save it. All this album did was make me want to listen to some real funk.

Teyana Taylor - K.T.S.E. (Keep That Same Energy) Reaction | Reactions | LIVING LIFE FEARLESS
'K.T.S.E.' was much more soulful, chilled out, and low key than I would have ever imagined, and while she showed a level of true artistry I never knew she had and Ye's production was generally strong, I went through all 8 tracks still without getting a clear picture of who she was as an artist or a person, and it just didn't make that strong of a statement - despite it being a pleasant listen.

You blame it on your problems but it’s no excuse
