MGMT were one of the first acts I remember hearing at the beginning of this almost hipster style elctro-pop indie wave that’s been sweeping across the soundscape. Maybe they weren’t the first but they were definitely one of the biggest and they’ve undoubtedly had a lot of influence on the acts to follow. They’ve since been passed up but hearing the first couple of singles off Little Dark Age made me think maybe they’ve still got something left for a resurrection of sorts. Little Dark Age is full of their clear reverence for ’80s pop and rock – with all of the vintage synths, dub effects, and just overall aesthetic feel, but with their own decidedly psychedelic twists thrown in for good measure. MGMT create an interesting dichotomy of warm, buzzing production and darker, more cynical lyrics and the result is a largely pleasing listen from start to finish that contains some of their most infectious work in years. It’s not perfect and some of the lyrics can be a bit corny, but Little Dark Age shows that they still have a lot to offer music, and you won’t hear much else like this in music.

Torii Wolf - Flow Riiot | Reactions | LIVING LIFE FEARLESS
Torii Wolf's haunting vocals and unbridled creativity paired with Premier's masterful production, create one of the most unique listening experiences I've had in quite some time and I hope they have even more in the works.

Cults - Offering
Offering doesn't quite reach the heights of their debut and the music is noticeably brighter, shedding some of their darker undertones for a more generic pop album, but I'll be damned if it isn't catchy music all the same.

Arcade Fire - Everything Now
Arcade Fire has delivered a mixed bag with Everything Now. There are some really great moments of synth heavy pop-rock here that get undercut by poor songwriting and flat messaging, despite their noble intents.

“I know that if you hide
It doesn’t go away
If you get out of bed
And find me standing all alone
Open-eyed
Burn the page
My little dark age”
