Rico Gatson : “My Eyes Have Seen” | Ronald Feldman Gallery

[dropcap size=big]R[/dropcap]onald Feldman Gallery presents My Eyes Have Seen, a solo exhibition of new work by artist Rico Gatson.

Here is a prime example of a visual artist creating a cohesive body of work while exploring multiple mediums, including painting, drawing, video, and sculpture. The video work combines footage taken by the artist and images regarding the murder of Emmett Till into a contemplative abstract narrative. The Alice Coltrane soundtrack to the video creates a vibe in the gallery as you view the work.

“Gatson takes as his subject the complexity of processing the grief of the dark African American past. A theme underlying the unity of the artworks on display is the necessity to “know” even though what one sees is not good. To know is to bring light to darkness which is rendered metaphorically in many of the works.”

The video work is available only at the gallery, and will not be posted online so make sure you get out to the gallery.
