Avril Lavigne, yeah let that sink in for a second, I’m sure that’s a name you haven’t heard in a long time. Well she’s back after I don’t know how many years and she’s gone and grown up on us. Gone are the faux-punk aesthetics and sound, leaving only a sound and visual that would fit right in with a Nicholas Sparks adapted movie. Meh. GoldLink and Miguel sounds like a can’t miss on paper and in practice it’s exactly that. The video for “Got Friends” is more of a short film than a music video though and the campy, throwback inspired nature of it just isn’t for me. I’ll stick to the audio. I’m still quite confused by what BROCKHAMPTON exactly are as a musical entity but this time they really dig into those ’90s pop band vibes with “SAN MARCOS”, complete with the cloudy VHS quality visuals.
My biggest guilty pleasure, well not so much guilty, in hip-hop right now has to be Mozzy. He is who he unabashedly is and while you know exactly what to expect from any new music from him, it’s almost always guaranteed to slap and the fact that he was able to get the actual Caine (from Menace II Society) in his latest music video is further proof that he just can’t miss right now. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that it’s about d*mn time we got some new Action Bronson in our lives and “White Bronco” is exactly as out there as I would expect and hope for from the hip-hop wild man. That beat is classic Bronson.
Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones you’re most pumped for.
