Dua Lipa has had one hell of a year and has turned herself into a legit superstar so it’s no wonder that the newly minted Silk City duo of Mark Ronson and Diplo tapped her for their first single, “Electricity.” The dance vibes are strong with this one and the flash dance style of the official video make it damn near impossible not to want to get down to this one. Calvin Harris also taps into those ’70s/’80s dance vibes with his latest single, “Promises,” featuring Sam Smith and the song and video hearken directly back to the glory days of Studio 54, complete with washed out filtering. J. Cole’s Dreamville label has been making a major push to become one of music’s top labels and we certainly think they have the potential talent to do so. Ari Lennox, their soulful crooner, comes through with the silky smooth “Whipped Cream,” who’s general warm vibe is further enhanced by the videos warm colors and soft tones. Neo-soul has been on a roll as of late and this is yet another solid entry.
Aside from their mega-tour with Drake, the Migos have been relatively quiet since Culture II but “Hot Summer” with DJ Durel is a certified hit. That bounce is undeniably perfect for summertime cookouts and the ’90s/Fresh Prince inspired visuals drive that home even more. Eminem had a hell of a bounce back with Kamikaze and the first official video off that project sees him trying to escape the negative energy from all of his critics before ultimately succumbing to it before going ‘kamikaze’ in what we assume he’ll do in the next video. “Fall” is a simple video but clever enough to drive home the song’s narrative.
