Lana Del Rey’s forthcoming sixth album must be approaching sooner than we thought as she’s back with her second single and video in as many weeks. The video keeps those signature nostalgic visuals going with washed out aesthetics and old school VHS home footage. The song is in line with the first offering as it’s very indie/folk inspired with an even softer sound than before. The debut of Jorja Smith was a breath of fresh air and one of the best releases of the year and “On Your Own” was one of our favorite songs off the project. So we’re glad to see it get the video treatment, and they make great use of effects and framing as she becomes a literal open book. After bursting onto the scene with his well received Free 6LACK project, 6LACK has returned with his long-awaited major follow-up. “East Atlanta Love Letter” was an early favorite from the tape and the video for it, while simple, drives home the somber mood of the song and makes some great use of lighting.
Clearly riding the recent wave of attention he’s gotten from this whole Eminem thing, Machine Gun Kelly is trying to make his push back into relevancy with a new project and the dark, emo song/video “LATELY” is actually worth the attention. It’s dark, moody, honest, and that beat is a vibe. “Bigger Than You” was tearing up the clubs all summer and 2 Chainz finally gave it the visual treatment complete with absolutely swagged out child representations of everyone involved with the song. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before but it’s a gimmick that never really gets old.
