MUSE are still gearing up for their forthcoming album with yet another single and video, this time for “The Dark Side.” It’s very heavy on the synths and retro-futuristic themes and the visuals are like their own f*cked up version Tron. It’s probably our favorite single thus far, which isn’t surprising as it’s very reminiscent and in line with the type of sound and aesthetics they’ve always been known for. “High Hopes” is the latest from Panic! At The Disco and the anthemic song can’t help but feel like just another generic pop rock song that any industry product might put out. The simplistic visual doesn’t help much on that front either. Could you get anymore by-the-numbers rap video than Tory Lanez’s latest? Possibly, but the whole schtick of rapping in front of a private jet with an expensive car pulled up to it has been absolutely run into the ground by now. But while the video is subpar, the song itself is actually pretty flames; better than a large majority of what was on his last album.
We’re still over here waiting for Chicago up and comer Kami to really have his time in the sun; he’s put out nothing but solid music and “Reboot” is a whole bop in its own right. More traditional than what we’re used to from him but the posse video really sells the hype of it all. While it definitely won’t be as viral as his “This Is America” video, Childish Gambino’s animated video for “Feels Like Summer” is still noteworthy as it features impromptu appearances from everyone and their momma – providing vague commentary about all of the chaos that’s been summer 2018. Oh and the song is a vibe; the perfect way to close out the season.
