Mariah Carey is back with a new single, “With You.” It’s a slow, ’90s-esque ballad that’s surprisingly produced by one DJ Mustard and it’s a jam! Despite whatever personal problems and antics she may have from time to time, her voice is still one of the greatest to ever grace a mic, and the classy, black and white visuals is classic Carey. Feeling this one. I may give Drake s*it for being the ultimate wave rider (he came out with McGregor wearing an Irish flag for f*cks sake) but it’s hard to argue that he’s not when he’s doing features like his latest one on Bad Bunny’s “Mia.” It’s a for sure crossover hit but can’t help but laugh at Drake’s phony accent and Spanish raps. Charli XCX teamed up with Troye Sivan for her ode to the year 1999 and the video is a greatest hits of everything that you’d associate with the era – boy bands, Nokias, early Mac computers, The Sims, G-Shocks, and more. It’s a fun song and video that really leans into the concept.
It looks like we may just be getting MadeinTYO’s long-developing debut project as the singles have been rolling out fast. “Outstanding” is a banger, no two ways around it, that beat is mean and it has re-sparked my interest in what he has to offer. The video is like a bad spin-off of American Pie though. When you talk about style in hip-hop you can’t forget the OG of the flash, Slick Rick, so it was dope to see him get a cameo in French Montana’s “No Stylist” video. Respect. The song however, is fairly forgettable and owes much of it’s buzz to Drake’s continued shots at Kanye.
