Sooo I guess soundcloud rap is a full blown thing these days, and the number of new ‘lils’ and their like popping up everyday is practically impossible to keep up. However, Trippie Redd is a name I’ve been familiar with over the past year or so, although that familiarity was due to everything but his music. So after finally seeing what he has to offer besides f*ckery on his full length project, LIFE’S A TRIP, I’ll give him credit for being better than I expected. Like most of these newer artists out these days he tries to take a more genre-less approach to his music, taking a little something from numerous genres – particularly the more emo phase of rock. Those moments are some of my least favorite moments on the project though as he comes off as more whiny than anything, but there is some genuinely compelling stuff here that shows there’s more to him than meets the eye. That soundcloud sound still isn’t my forte but LIFE’S A TRIP is one of the better offering out of this wave.
