Trailer Roundup 7/9-7/22

It’s Comic-Con season so you know what that means…trailers upon trailers! So of course this week’s roundup is loaded with ‘nerd’ pleasing content and DC and Warner Bros. came with some big guns. Starting with Aquaman, which is one character I could never have imagined getting his own movie, but we live in wild times and he definitely seems to be the wildest of the Justice League. I still don’t love the direction they go with their visuals but they have a much better grasp on balancing their films’ tones and James Wan has yet to disappoint. Shazam! is another unexpected one but it could also have the most potential as it’s definitely the lightest in tone and seems to be their superhero version of Big. If nothing else it should stand out from their roster in a similar way in which Ant-Man does for Marvel’s cinematic universe. Matt Groening has been responsible for some of the most iconic TV series out there (and arguably THE most iconic one), so to see him make his big return and in the more unrestricted setting of Netflix is definite cause for excitement. Disenchantment looks like it could be taking the best of everything he does and turning it up to an 11…or it could feel horribly dated. Only time will tell.

Godzilla caught a lot of flack for it’s lack of actual ‘Godzilla’ for a large portion of the movie, but I was a big fan and it was the first movie in the series that actually made me care about its story. Godzilla: King of the Monsters looks like it will appeal to fans on both sides of the aisle with a much larger dose of monster mayhem with a still grounded story. Oh and the visuals are still f*cking spectacular! The hype train is real for this one. Speaking of hype and movies we never thought would see the light of day – we’re finally getting a sequel to one of M. Night Shyamalan’s greatest films, Unbreakable. His three iconic characters spend a lot more time in a room together than I’d expect but getting to see them really interact has us hyped up even more than we thought possible. Glass can’t get here soon enough.

Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones you’re most pumped for.
