After what was a fairly ‘meh’ teaser trailer, Sony has given us the first proper trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Venom. I’ll say it got my hopes up a little bit more than that first look but I do still have major reservations that they’ll do one of my all-time favorite characters proper justice. The way they say’ symbiote’ is very cringe and fans have been quick to express their displeasure. But one thing I have absolutely no reservations about is that that full body shoulder up look at the venom suit is f*cking glorious! Amazon continues their push to make award worthy films with their star-studded drama, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot. Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill look to be turning in yet more brilliant roles and it looks like a great mix of grounded real-life drama, tragedy, and comedy. Whitney Houston was one of the main reasons I fell in love with music in the first place; a favorite of my mom, her songs were always being played in my household. We all know her tragic story from the outside but this summer it looks like we’ll be getting the first real good look at her heartbreaking story of ‘what was’ and ‘what could’ve been’ through first and second hand accounts.
I know, I know, you’re probably getting as tired of these post-apocalyptic stories as I am, but Netflix looks like they might have a real winner on their hands with The Rain. A Danish production that looks to be taking a fresh take on the genre with elements of The Walking Dead and Hunger Games/Maze Runner – could be unique at the least. Policing in America, particularly in black/underprivileged communities has been an especially hot topic subject the past couple of years and we’re just now starting to see movies really broach those themes and topics. Blindspotting is the latest to do so and it looks like a highly stylized endeavor that tries to use comedy and melodrama to really ‘say’ something.
Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones you’re most pumped for.
