Much like my roundup of music videos, my roundup of new and interesting movie trailers was almost overflowing. Kicking things off, Fantastic Beasts makes its return for the next entry in the pre-Harry Potter, Potter epic. I wasn’t much of a fan of the first one and felt it was quite underwhelming but we do get to see a much younger Dumbledore in his early days as just another teacher at Hogwarts and some more well, “fantastic beasts” (hopefully more fantastic than the first go around). Lakeith Stanfield is really making the rounds these days and I’m glad to see it because he’s a dope actor (especially on Atlanta). Sorry to Bother You looks like one of the most surreal comedies I’ve seen in quite some time with a premise that initially didn’t seem that great but pulled me in more and more as the trailer went on. Completely over the top and imaginative, this looks like a must watch. Stanfield’s stock is definitely on the rise. I knew it was only a matter of time before Melissa McCarthy took a more dramatic role (with a splash of comedy of course) and this looks like this might just give her that more critical respect a la Steve Carell and either way I’ll watch damn near anything with a Fox Searchlight logo slapped to it. They’ve earned that.
Disney must be making a lot of money off of revisiting old properties because they’re back at again, this time with the classic Mary Poppins, albeit it is a true sequel. It’s just a short teaser but there’s just enough to get everyone’s nostalgic juices flowing again. Last, but definitely not least, we just got the second trailer for Avengers: Infinity War and it’s got me literally salivating with anticipation. I didn’t even need to see anymore after the first look but seeing everyone interacting on screen together will never, ever get old to me. DC please take notes.
