Mary Queen of Scots has been getting a lot of critical praise and is sure to make a strong awards push and you can see why from its trailer. Aside from the overbearing proclamations, every scene we get a glimpse at involving the leading ladies suggests exceptionally high level performances from the two. Comic books and comic book adaptations are about as mainstream as can be these days and Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Gerard Way’s (of My Chemical Romance fame) The Umbrella Academy is perfect proof of that. It’s not a super well known series but it does look interesting and the casting is solid. He may have been fired from one of the most successful comic book movie franchises ever but it didn’t take long for James Gunn to get back into the genre with Brightburn. He’s always approached things differently and that couldn’t be any clearer here as Brightburn is essentially a ‘what-if’ story about Superman turning out to be a homicidal maniac rather than mankind’s savior. I’m in.
As if Disney didn’t already own enough of our childhoods, they’re back at it, this time taking a stab at the memorable Artemis Fowl franchise. Whether they’ll capture the same appeal as the original books is yet to be seen but they definitely seem to be aiming for that Harry Potter crowd. Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere then I’m sure you already know that Marvel has released the long-anticipated trailer for the next Avengers installment, aptly titled Avengers: Endgame. Things pick up right after the events of the last movie and they don’t give much away but with the super dramatic backing track and long dialogues, things seem to be more dire than ever. But at least Hawkeye is back.
