I don’t know if it’s because it’s the holiday season but over the past couple of weeks we’ve gotten an absurd amount of new trailers for massive childhood franchises starting with the long talked about Toy Story 4. As someone who literally grew up with the Toy Story franchise I’ve been strongly against this 4th iteration as 3 was a perfect send off. But while we only got a teaser here, the strong nostalgic vibes are too strong for me to resist. Just take my money. Another one I’ve been strongly against was the forthcoming live-adaptation of the greatest Disney animated film ever (don’t even try arguing), The Lion King. But there’s no stopping the machine that is Disney and at least the CGI looks damn impressive. They were also really smart in basically showing us a beat for beat recreation for its first initial teaser, pulling directly on those childhood heartstrings. Damn you Disney! Not content with those two already massive IPs, they also gave us our first good look at their live-action take on Dumbo. I’ve never cared much for the movie, for many reasons, but it does look like an intriguing, emotional ride.
Disney isn’t the only company out there playing on our nostalgia though, as Warner Bros. has hit us with their own live-adaptation of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu, and I got to say, it looks unexpectedly good. Aside from only hearing Deadpool everytime Pikachu opens his mouth, it’s a film clearly aimed at the generation that really kicked the ‘catch ’em all’ craze into overdrive, and I’m here for it. They’ve also hit us with the a new look at their long developing follow-up, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. The first one was a surprising hit and its sequel looks to be another fun, self-aware, pop-culture filled ride. They just never want us to grow up.
Check out everything I rounded up below and let me know which ones you’re most pumped for.
