Pet Sematary is easily one of Stephen King’s most horrifying tales, but while the original adaptation certainly had its moments and its following, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’d rank it among the best King adaptations, but there’s so much potential in it that they’re back taking another shot at it and while remakes are rarely good, the initial trailer has us hopeful – the casting is great, the atmosphere looks appropriately creepy, the backing soundtrack is skin crawling, and the kids in the animal masks is a perfect touch. I never would have thought that I’d want to see a movie about one of America’s most despised men, Dick Cheney, but with a cast that includes Steve Carrell, Sam Rockwell (as Bush), and Christian Bale (as Cheney), VICE has properly piqued my interest, and the trailer’s song choice was perfect. Clint Eastwood is about as iconic as they come in the history of film and to think that at 88 he’s still turning out noteworthy projects is insane. But he’s fully embraced that old anti-hero role to perfection and he’s back with another one. The Mule looks like it’ll be an intense drama-filled ride, the likes he’s become synonymous for.
Not content with just directing the Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, Dexter Fletcher is pulling double duty and directing the Elton John biopic, Rocketman. Rocketman looks so much more fantastical and surreal than the former but keeps with the lighter, more vibrant tone that implies it will most likely stay away from the darker tales of his life. Looks fun nonetheless. While it may only be a teaser and while I wish they’d stop turning all their classics into live-action adaptations, just hearing that iconic music is enough to give me the goosebumps. Aladdin is a top 3 Disney film in my books and the promise of seeing Will Smith as the genie is probably enough to get me to see it.
