We’re in full blown Yeezy season now and we just got the third promised project of this impressive run – the Kanye West & Kid Cudi joint album, Kids See Ghosts (which is also the name of their makeshift group). Not surprisingly, it’s the most experimental of the 3 projects we’ve gotten so far as Ye tries to combine the otherworldy, alternative sound Cudi is known for and the clean, sampled sounds he’s known for. The result is an eclectic, knocking collection of sounds that impressively subverts any expectations one might have going into it. It feels much more expansive than what he produced for himself on ye but simultaneously more meticulously plotted out. For whatever riffs these two may have had in the past, they seem all but forgot because the chemistry is as good as it’s ever been as they balance Cudi’s more melodic vocalizations and Kanye’s more aggressive raps (he still doesn’t address much btw). It’s almost impossible to categorize the sound they’ve crafted but it’s wholly their own and it’s got some very strong vibes. Not quite on Daytona levels, but definitely better than Kanye’s own offering out of the bunch.
