After nearly two years without a real project to speak of, Desiigner has finally returned with L.O.D (Life of Desiigner), which was supposed to originally be the title of his major debut but instead it’s been turned into an EP of sorts (a good decision in my book). He’s had a weird introduction as an artist, after an absolutely MASSIVE start, new music of his has been hard to come by and he’s done very little to shake off the claims of him simply being a Future rip-off. But on L.O.D I think this has been his best attempt at differentiating himself from ‘that guy’ and he displays a sound that while not entirely different from what’s out there, feels more genuine and tailored specifically to him. The best example of which being “LA to NY” that while another trap song, feels uniquely NY. Although it’s titled Life of Desiigner, we don’t learn much about him as a person but we do get a much better feel for who he is as his own musical entity. None of the seven songs here are as good as even the loosies he’s released over the past year but their even to keep me interested in a proper debut.
“I don’t know how to get to you, oh (trrra)
She said “Please send that destination”
I don’t know how to… (yeah)
You looking for me
And I’m too, too gone”
