Curren$y is easily hip-hop’s most prolific artist, often releasing 5+ projects a year. So it’s hard to know just which project to take the most serious and which ones to not. But even though it seems like he has a lot of filler material out there, Fire In The Clouds sounds like one of his more well thought out collection of songs. It’s still very much that Curren$y sound that we’ve come to know, love, and expect from the proudly underground rapper but the production, writing, and everything in between has a sharpness to them that wasn’t “missing” per se from his most recent releases but was definitely lacking in consistency. Fire In The Cloud is a consistently dope listen and it reminded me why I fell in love with his music in the first place. If you’ve had a hard time keeping up with the endless stream of music he puts out and skip one or two projects here and there, make sure you don’t miss this one, he did his thing here!
They got pistols in the sofa cushion, mama watch how you sittin’
Them niggas in my brother apartment used to be trippin’
But I cherished every minute spent in it
Remember it like yesterday, them images is very vivid
Made me a colder nigga, as a youngster, roll with the older
And made sure that I did my shit just how they did it– “A Sign of Things to Come”
