BlocBoy JB has had a rapid ascension to the forefront of rap, first for his new dance craze, then with his Drake assisted single, โLook Aliveโ, that took things over the top. He wasted no time in capitalizing on all of that new attention with a slew of singles that all eventually led to his most ambitious project yet,ย Simi. While it was more enjoyable than I would have expected, I canโt help but feel like Iโve been here before. Heโs more reminiscent of those Soulja Boy, D4L, โWalk It Outโ days than he is of any of the new acts out these days. Whatever song over the past year made you familiar with the Memphis rapper, is exactly what you can expect from the rest of album. He raps with the same flow, same cadence, and the beats all play in that same lane where you can โshootโ to. Itโs a safe project that triples down on everything thatโs gotten him to this point, but it still remains to be seen if he has what it takes to outlast his own dance craze.
โPushed me to the edge, so it really ainโt my mothafuckinโ fault
Man, Iโm not to blame, man,ย this fuckinโ industry is cutthroat
Iโm not the same, man,ย and I could let you check the tag now
Iโm rockinโ name brand,ย Iโm only chasinโ after bags nowโ
