Video Roundup 2/5/17

Video Roundup 2/5-2/11

Finally here with the last roundup of the day and now officially caught up for the last couple of weeks and needless to say there was a lot of videos to go through. It’s a good mix this time with a lot non hip-hop videos catching my eye. All in all there are videos from Chance the Rapper, Lady Gaga, Danny Brown, Katy Perry, Depeche Mode, and many more. Check them all out below, along with my reactions.

Chance the Rapper – Same Drugs

Chance the Rapper has had one hell of a year, especially for an independent artist, and he just capped it off with a huge Grammy night. Just before that night he revisited Coloring Book for a video for “Same Drugs”, and in typical Chance fashion the video made it’s debut on Facebook live.

Wale – Running Back

One thing Wale is always good for is a dope lead single, and that run continues with “Running Back”. I can’t help but be in a good mood after rocking with this feel good song, and not to mention we did get an increasingly rare, dope verse from Lil Wayne. The video has some dope visuals as well with great use of lighting and colors.

Depeche Mode – Where’s the Revolution

I can’t lie, outside of name recognition I don’t know much about Depeche Mode, music or otherwise. But I do know that they’re legends in the industry and I can see why. “Where’s the Revolution” is an alright song with a strong political message. I like the visuals though, anything black and white is typically good with me.

Paul White ft Danny Brown – Accelerator

Danny Brown, aka hip-hop’s wild man, lives up to that moniker on “Accelerator”, a frenetic track with an equally insane video. But at this point do you really expect anything less from him.

Lady Gaga – John Wayne

It’s hard for me to deny the incredible performer that Gaga is or the undeniable creative vision she at times possesses, but I still can’t fuck with Joanne. The new sound was cringy at best for me, especially this song, but the video is actually kind of incredible.

Problem – My Squad

Definitely one of the bigger club smashes from the past year finally gets it’s own visuals. He goes the Snapchat route visually (I fully expect more artists to try to go this route) and it actually came out pretty well. Besides the Rams plugs of course; we’re Raider Nation all day over here.

Denzel Curry – This Life

Taking it all the way back to his tape that dropped in early 2016, Denzel finally adds visuals to one of the better songs off the project. Visuals definitely have those early 2000’s feels to it, arcade dates and all. He should be having a new tape on the way soon.

Tyga – Gucci Snakes

It seems like no matter how many L’s this guy continues to take, he still finds a way stay around (Kim called in that favor from Ye). There’s something to say about that level of perseverance, but he’s still extremely corny to me. At least, for the most part, he’s good for a club banger every now and then; this not being one of them. The video is so all over the place with it’s cuts that I can’t tell what the hell is going on.

Katy Perry – Chained To The Rhythm

I’ll admit, “Fireworks” and that one other song (“Roar”(?)) were my shit when they came out. But other than that she’s fallen off pretty significantly. I’m sure this will be played all over the radio, but I just can’t get jiggy with this shit. The video however, I can get with that. Mini gourmet meals for hamsters. WHAT!?

SiR – All In My Head

Right after the announcement of his recent signing to TDE and right before the release of Her Too, SiR returns to the incredibly dope Her EP and one of my favorite songs off the tape. The video’s simple but matches the vibe of the song perfectly. I predict a big 2017 for him.

Uncle Murda “2016 Rap Up”

I’m not even gonna sit here and act like I listen to any Uncle Murda songs because I definitely don’t, but he decided to do his own version of the end of the year roundup, and I can’t lie, he went in! Shit’s hilarious, so click play, sit back, and soak it all in. A perfect send off for 2016.
