Ty Dolla $ign - Beach House 3

Ty Dolla $ign – Beach House 3 Reaction

Community Rating0 Votes

Ty Dolla $ign has had guest features on so many songs and albums over the past couple of years that he could’ve released an album or two off of those alone. He’s been around so much that he hasn’t really given me a chance to miss him or his music, so Beach House 3 never really registered on my radar. But Free TC was a very solid debut and Campaign had its moments so I figured Beach House 3 would at least offer up some solid music to add to the rotation.

“Everybody wants to be famous
Anyway, anyhow
They ain’t worried ’bout who they steppin’ on, no
Just as long as they race the top
They don’t wanna die nameless, no
They just wanna be famous”

Unlike his debut, Beach House 3 doesn’t seem to have a grand concept it’s trying to convey, it’s a project made up entirely of bangers – no real subtlety, no high art, just bangers. Constructing an album this way can lead to early listener fatigue, that is if said songs are not up to par. That however, is not the case with Ty’s collection of hard hitting pop (and it is pop). The production on here is top notch featuring contributions from pretty much a who’s who of today’s top producers in rap, and they lace him with a string of songs that could all be singles in their own rights, only letting up a little towards the album’s back end. Ty has never really blown me away with just his singing but he has always impressed with his songwriting, it’s some of the best in the business and why he gets as much work as he does. Every song is a catchy joy to listen to, there’s just not a ton of substance to go along with it.

Have you heard Beach House 3? What’d you think about it? Do you wish Ty Dolla $ign added a bit more substance to go along with the fantastic production? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to leave your own ratings and reactions for the album.

Conclusion
Ty Dolla $ign's latest is a project made up entirely of bangers - no real subtlety, no high art, just bangers. It's top notch production coupled with his fantastic songwriting ability kept early fatigue from setting on. Expect a catchy, fun affair but don't expect much substance to go along with it.
