Trailer Roundup 4/17-4/30

April closed out with a decent offering of new movie trailers to get us excited for the summer. From movies like Kingsman: The Golden CircleCars 3WakefieldTulip Fever, and more, there was a little something for everybody. Check out everything I rounded up below, along with my reactions.

Cars 3

Cars is easily my least favorite franchise from Pixar. I didn’t find the first one to be that enjoyable and the second was just downright awful. I thought that would have finally been the last straw but alas, here we are for round 3. We can’t get an Incredibles 2 but we can get a third Cars film. I just don’t get it and I don’t who keeps asking for these. With that being said, so far this looks much, much better than the second and a semi-return to it’s original formula. Here’s to hoping this is the last.

American Assassin

There just seems to be an endless supply of these spy action thrillers these days. They’re like movie’s new age action heroes. We’ve swapped Schwarzenegger for Matt Damon and ever since then, everyone wants to have the next Bourne franchise. Never mind O’Brien’s character having almost the exact same backstory as Jason Bourne, this looks like it could be decent.

The Little Hours

I can’t help but feel like this a raunchier, funnier version of Danny McBride and James Franco’s decidedly unfunny Medieval spoof Your Highness. Produced by Aubrey Plaza, you’ll definitely have to be a fan of a specific type of comedy but I generally find her funny in most things so I’ll probably give this one a stream. Besides, April and Ron Swanson back together again!? Sign me up!

Tulip Fever

Ever since her turn as Ava in Ex MachinaAlicia Vikander has been popping up all over the place, and rightfully so. This one almost looks like a Shakespeare adaptation, and those aren’t generally movies I gravitate towards but there’s no denying that this has an incredible cast (minus Delevingne), so it might be worth a watch.

Wakefield

Ever since his turn as Walter White in the greatest television series of all time (yeah I said it), Bryan Cranston has opened my eyes to just how incredible he is as an actor. I’m down to watch anything he’s a part of, even the atrocity that was Why Him? This one however looks like one of the most original films to come out in quite some time. It’s got a very interesting concept going for it that looks like it’ll really let him stretch his acting chops. I’m all for this one.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

When Kingsman first came out it was riding that comic book-esque, ultra violent action wave that movies like Kick Ass helped get going. I found the original to be thoroughly enjoyable with some killer fight scenes, and while I wasn’t exactly clamoring for a sequel, I’ll take it. If for no other reason than to find out just how the fuck Harry is still alive.
