Trailer Roundup 12/26/16

Trailer Roundup 12/26-1/8

To say it’s been a slow couple weeks for new trailers would be an understatement. Hollywood has seemed to take the holidays off and all they’ve left us with are trailers for Rings, Dying Laughing, Don’t Knock Twice, and I Am Not Your Negro. Check them out below along with my reactions.

Rings

At this point it’s become pointless to point out the lack of original ideas in Hollywood these days. Ring was actually a pretty good movie when it first came out, but this one looks like a cheap cash in that’ll reuse those same story elements for a new audience. Straight to stream for me.

Dying Laughing

I’m a huge fan of stand up comics and what they do. It’s a dying lacking art form these days that has to be one of the hardest things to do right. So this documentary definitely has my full attention, and they seem to have a solid group of comedians to sit down with. Worth a watch for sure.

Don’t Knock Twice

When I was little, I had an obsession with horror movies, but by now we all know the horror movie formula, pretty much down pat. So I rarely even get interested in new ones anymore, but every now and then one comes along that looks to shake things up just enough that I might give it a try. Don’t Knock Twice doesn’t look terribly original but it looks like it might subvert things just enough to make it interesting.

I Am Not Your Negro

James Baldwin might be one of the most overlooked voices of civil rights and race relations in history. I know that I don’t know nearly enough about him like I should. This documentary, which has Samuel L. Jackson involved, looks like it might remedy that. Clearly unafraid to voice his opinions and say the uneasy truths, it looks to be an appropriately uncomfortable watch that’s still relevant today.
