Infinite Third – “Vision(s)” Reaction

Community Rating1 Vote

Billy Mays III (son of TV personality Billy Mays), otherwise known as Infinite Third, ushers forth a cryptic message in the form of “Vision(s),” the third track on his newest, as-of-yet-unreleased album.

A trippy techno vibe greets listeners like the flickering screen of a fractured computer monitor. This song is what it sounds like to straddle the threshold of an ancient Buddhist temple and the edge of The Matrix.

The guitar work is skillful and carefully thought out; no wankery here! Instead of gratuitous soloing, we’re immersed in lush soundscapes and treated to tones in the singular style of Rishloo (sans the vocals) or Mogwai. Loads of effects circumnavigate our minds – buzzing, humming, pinging, whirring…

This song is what it sounds like to straddle the threshold of an ancient Buddhist temple and the edge of the Matrix.

It’s Tool without the edge; a loose, nebulous embodiment of all the same thoughtful composing. “Vision(s)” is a musical journey that was clearly meant to be a musical journey in the first place; expert-level expression.

It all feels Tibetan… There’s no throat singing, but the indecipherable mutterings are a creative touch in much the same vein.

Into the Matrix… The end feels like a direct reference to the movie I’ve chosen to associate the song with. On that note, it would seem Infinite Third has won me over with this track. How about you?

"Vision(s)" Reaction
Conclusion
Infinite Third brings balanced composition to avant-guarde in "Vision(s)" - dreaming up sounds at once imaginative and effortlessly complex. I want to love it, so I will.
