Trailer Roundup 7/10/17

Trailer Roundup 7/10-7/23

There was a huge amount of new trailers that dropped this week. So many that we’re splitting it up between regular drops and drops that came out from the San Diego Comic Con. So as far as regular released trailers we got ALPHABlade Runner 2049The Disaster Artist,  The Shape of WaterA Wrinkle In Time, and more. Check out everything I rounded up below, along with my reactions.

ALPHA

Well that looked interesting. A survival/coming of age tale set during humanity’s early beginnings. But it’s also a story about the first domestication of wolves. You don’t see many movies set during this time period and the visuals look absolutely breathtaking. Could be the next Life of Pi.

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women

Whoa who knew the real life origin of Wonder Woman was so…salacious. I for sure didn’t, but I love learning of the story behind the story; they’re often just as interesting as the story itself. And this looks even more interesting than the origin of Diana of ‎Themyscira aka Wonder Woman. Call me crazy, but I might choose seeing this over the DC one if given the choice.

Crown Heights

Ever since I saw him in Atlanta, I knew Lakeith Stanfield had something special, so I’m glad to see his shine continue to grow. Crown Heights looks like it will really put his acting chops to the test with it’s intense, emotional backdrop. This far too common true story looks like an intense film worth a watch and another big notch in Amazon’s belt.

Darkest Hour

I swear there’s like three movies about Winston Churchill coming out this year. I could be wrong, but it feels that way. Either way, I know almost nothing about his story outside of his importance during World War II so I’m interested in finding out more. Not to mention that I’ll watch almost anything that Gary Oldman is in.

Only the Brave

This one hits a little closer to home, seeing as my brother is a firefighter himself. So I know a bit more about what all their jobs entail than I did before, but this movie looks like it might really capture the job’s most intense moments with a fantastic cast to back it up. They deserve all the credit and attention in the world, and that’s completely biased. So what.

Planetarium

Natalie Portman’s been doing a lot of these smaller films lately and really been digging into her French. It looks like it’s got some interesting things going for it, but it might also be too artsy for my liking. Either way, she’s still a top notch actor.

Rebel in the Rye

I might be one of the only kids in America who wasn’t assigned Catcher in the Rye to read, so I’ve never actually read the book. I know, I know. As a result, this trailer hasn’t had the same effect on me as it probably has on most other people out there, but Nicholas Hoult has steadily been turning into one of the best actors out there so it’ll probably be pretty good.

The Shape of Water

This has Guillermo del Toro’s identity written all over it. Fantastic monster design, fantasy overtones, and just a great overall cinematic eye. It looks like an odd pairing between romance and fantasy but if nothing else you know it’s going to be highly unique. I’m still waiting on that new Hellboy though; chop chop Guillermo.

A Wrinkle In Time

Speaking about fantasy, this Oprah Winfrey featuring movie looks like a literal trip. I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here but it looks like it’s got some crazy visuals. You’ll need a lot more than that these days but time will tell if there’s more to it.

Wonderstruck

Again, I have no idea what’s actually going on here, but it looks like it’s going to flip back and forth between two time periods with an intertwining story. That could create some very cool visuals but I’m curious to see how they can pull this off, storytelling wise.

Blade Runner 2049

I really didn’t need to see anymore of Bladerunner 2049 to be convinced that this will be an opening day watch for me. The visuals and aesthetics are stunning and properly capture the original’s looks while still feeling fresh. It also looks to bring in more Harrison Ford than I was expecting, so I reallyyyy can’t wait to see this one.

The Snowman

After the first minute or so I thought this was just going to be another horrible horror movie with a one trick gimmick but it turned into an intersting, if not gruesome, crime thriller. I think Fassbender can be a bit overrated in his roles outside of Magneto but he’s still good and I love a good thriller so I’ll most likely be checking this one out.

The Disaster Artist

My god this is absolutely f*cking gold! If you’ve never seen The Room, the movie so bad that it’s brilliant, then one, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life, and two, this will go completely over your head lol. Please do yourselves a favor and go watch that movie or at least clips from it and then come back and watch this trailer. Brilliant, just brilliant. A24 for the win again!
